Black screen with colorfull stripes and then white screen with stripes?

I everyone,

Last night my pc was working just fine, but this morning when I wanted to start him up I could smell a light burn. When I started the pc up(after checking that everything was fine inside), the screen came up white with colorfull stripes and then changed to a black screen with color stripes. Its the first time this has happened and I'm not sure if its the videochip or what. I've build the pc myself and had no problems for 2 years. The specs ar below:

Asus Crosshair Mobo
XFX 8800GTS PCI-E
AMD Daul-Core 6000 Chip
4x1G OCZ PC2 6400 memory
Kandalf case with build in watercooling
Samsung 26" T260 monitor (please dont say its the monitor!)

I also considered the mobo, but I dont have the knowledge you guys have so I'll leave it in your capable brains.

I have the same problem, it was my video card. Try taking out the video card and putting it in a buddies system, then try putting theirs in your system. First make sure they are compatible though. That's the easy way to either say it is the video card or isn't.

Thanks, but I dont know anyone here with a pc. Might have to take it in to a pc repair shop to test it for me. thanks anyway.
