I did not install any new hardware or software..the blue screen of death just popped up...can anyone decipher what could have caused this?

Elliah, 0x124 errors are unfortunately very common. Check out this link and read it through. It may help. If not let us know. Also, on your next post, if you have minidumps attach them.
