i have a project at work that i need some help with. the boot menu does not see the hard drive attached to sata 1 but the BIOS main page does, windows also does not see it. the OS is vista enterprise sp2 build 6002 x86, the MOBO is an asus p5k, the BIOS is american megatrends 0603, 7/3/2007

i know this may not be a lot to go on but this is my first attempt at troubleshooting and fixing a problem like this so if you guys can help me fix this that would be sweet.

The only thing that springs to mind is that SATA drivers are not installed, and you need to set the BIOS to run the drive as IDE.

Windows won't place the drive in Explorer, (My Computer), until it has been formatted (!) or (?).

Look for the drive and format it from: Control Panel > Performance & Maintenance >Administrative tools > Computer Management > Storage >Disk Management.

(With Control Panel in "Category View").
