Boot problem

  1. I have been given a friends computer to fix, it currently won't boot up after the memory check it says "searching for boot record from CD Rom...OK" and then just hangs.

At first i thought there was a hard drive issue but i have put this in my PC and formatted it yet when i put it back together i got the same problem.

I have checked BIOS and the set up is first to boot from CD Rom then HD which i believe is correct but even when i boot with the windows XP disk i am still getting this same message.

    Please help!!

Try using the cd-rom drive from your machine to do the install.

It originally did have an operating system on the HD though and the same error was coming up before i formatted it, so the problem must lie elsewhere.

Does the BIOS detect the HD? Maybe you just have a jumper/cable problem?
