Booting from a slave HDD

hay

well I can't find a topic on this .
what I want to do is have 1 boot on master HDD and have 1 to 4 boot's no slave HDD if I can ?
reason being I have a 20gb 7200rpm and a 40gb 5000rpm(or what ever the slower speed is)
My pc's are dinosaurs so I have endipendant prosses per a boot >_< (hard times)

anything to help me is always appreciated

duuuuh

just remimberd how to install to the slave..just swap places with master. Install then return it to slave..

Per HDD, there can only be four partitions; each can be bootable

BIOS finds the first HDD with an active partition and looks for the boot sector (not the MBR) in it. If found, it reads the boot.ini for the data.

Therefore, if HDD#1 is bootable, then the boot.ini can control what gets booted - -
even other partitions on different HDDS
 
You can boot an OS on a slave drive if the master hard drive has a bootloader. Physically swapping jumpers on drives is not the best way to boot off a slave drive.
