So I'm not a complete computer guru, so I'm hoping someone can help me! My wife's computer was dropped recently and seems beyond repair, but I have documents and pictures and things on there I would love to have back. Is there a way to get them off if the computer can no longer be turned on?

Yeah it should be possible assuming the hard disk wasn't damaged when the laptop was dropped.

Your best bet is to buy an external enclosure for a 2.5" disk (which is what is fitted to a laptop) and then connect it to another computer using that enclosure. Its then just a simple case of transferring files over to the other computer.
