Building a Media Center PC

  1. Dear TechSpot,

I am looking into creating a Media Center like PC for myself, and willing to spend anywhere from 400-500 dollars. I think this is quite feasible but I'd like some help on where to go. I'm aware I could probably buy one for this price but I would like to custom build it. I looked up a few guides but I do have a few questions. GFX Card and CPU are the most touchy subjects I'm interested in. Monitor too, but I'm thinking of just getting a CRT because as far as I can tell there isn't a way to get a LCD for the price range I'm looking at. My goals for the PC are basically the following:

    • Playing content up to 720p.
    • Emulation of some backups I own, my PS2 no longer works.
    • Decent audio playback.
    • Able to play slightly modern games, 2007 and down?

Can anyone share some tips, reccomendations?

Check out Ecost.com for an LCD....You can get a nice sized one for a good price.
