Activision is taking the Call of Duty franchise to its roots with Call of Duty: WWII. The trailer shows cutscenes and some gameplay footage, and it looks polished. The chaotic and adrenaline pumping Normandy beach-storming scene in the trailer brings back memories of the Spielberg-like opening of Medal of Honor: Frontline.

The trailer is set up in the style of a cinematic trailer, so even though it states that the trailer consists entirely of “in-game footage,” actual gameplay footage is sparse and brief. It is hard to get a good idea of what gameplay is like, but visually it looks like the game will be utilizing a fair portion of the system’s graphic card capabilities, whether PC or console.

The game will follow “The Bloody First,” as they “preserve freedom in the face of tyranny.”

According to Polygon, in story mode, the player will assume the role of Ronald “Red” Daniels, who is a member of the U.S. Army’s 1st Infantry Division. Co-op play is also available during the campaign. GameSpot reported that there is also at least one mission where players fight as a woman in the French resistance. A multiplayer mode is available as is an area called “Headquarters,” which is reserved for socializing and setting up teams.

An Activision release states, the game will take place between 1944 and 1945 and players can expect to fight through Normandy on D-Day and the Battle of the Bulge among other battles from the period.

The Verge reports that preorders of the game receive access to a private beta. While there is no official word on when the beta will start, expect it soon since the game ships on November 3. It will be available on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Going back to their roots? Looks great. Maybe this is the break of the same old boring CoD we keep getting year after year.

Now we just need some solid coop multiplayer. Anyone remember Operation Flashpoint? That game did it right... for some reason it wasn't very successful though. Man that was fun though, playing as a squad with three other buddies of mine.

Wow!! This looks great! I hope it's heavy on story. I haven't bought a new game in about a year but I might get this! (when its 30% or more off on steam)
Obviously they were going for a cinematic feel for the trailer, so of course, they gave us mostly cutscenes, but it looks like they are shooting for something story intensive. That does not necessarily mean "good story," but certainly they will deliver something that is at least decent where the narrative is concerned. I'm with you though. I'll probably wait until the first price drop. I've been spending too much lately. On the other hand ... I really like WWII games.

Yeah, the trailer looks hot, but the in game play .... that remains to be seen. They have always been good at pumping up their image, just got to hope they don't let us down and for Gods sake, make the map HUGE and not those lame "lanes" we went through the 1st time around .......

I'll hold my judgement for gameplay footage. As of now, I'm more than skeptical of anything put out with the COD name. COD always puts out good trailers, so watching this isn't convincing enough. However, it's still a good looking trailer.

I fully agree except for one point which you'll notice I've corrected for you... ;)

Now we just need a solid single player campaign. (y)(y)

Activision is a master at marketing, until everyone gets the game in their hands and realize it's the same thing with a different coat of paint.

A turd even with a fresh coat of paint is still a turd.Have to wait and reserve judgement for when the game is here.
