If I run a Strong Magnet over a EEprom chip (NOT EPROM) will it erase it?? Or can it be only erased with a electrical field??

    Any info would be wonderful

    Thanx,

While others may argue, I've never been successful.

I've taken some very powerful earth magnets and attempted to erase BIOS chips... disks... solid state storage devices.. etc... Just for fun I might add.

    I've yet to be successful.

I doubt it is a myth (certainly there is fact behind magnetic fields erasing storage devices), but I've yet to find a magnet strong enough.

You can't erase EEPROMs with a magnet. I imagine a very powerful and rapidly changing electromagnetic field could fry the chip but it'd be easier to use a hammer in that case.
