these are generally a pain in the **** to use, lots of wires and adaptors to buy as they only have RF input and RCA video input...

I use one of those nice little media players with built in HDD, they cost around £70 from maplins you can plug your xbox 3 rca wire straight into them and they record in an MPG format..
