Had to do a restore (used the Dell XP disk that came with the laptop) on my Dell E1705.

Every thing went fine with restore except I can not connect to the internet and wireless does not come up. I tried FN+F2 to enable it but it has no effect.

Network connection show 1394. When I double click on it, it show connected.

Also Device Manager does not show a wireless adapter, just the 1394

Thanks in advance for your help.

get into the Device Manager and Show All devices.

a) disable the 1394:: that's the firewire stuff

b) you'll see your network in yellow or red; you need the OEM drivers that came with the system.

Update. I am a bonehead. I forgot to install the drivers. I loaded the wireless driver and everything is working fine now.

Side caveat. I loaded 2 different drivers (wireless and wireless/LAN) from the driver’s cd. That screwed up the boot and it would not start.

I did a system restore to a good known working boot and loaded just the wireless driver. That was the final fix.
