Cannot delete corrupted files

My subject pretty much says it all. I'm not a technician but my help line was dialed in to fix a problem with a program on my external (F) drive. They were unable to delete some of the files so they could replace them with uncorrupted files. I was advised that you may have a diagnostic program that could help.

Do you know why the files couldn't be deleted? Was there a specific error message? One option you could try is something like a Linux Live CD. The PC would boot to a linux operating system where you could browse the files on the external drive and attempt to delete them that way.
