Cannot open Attachments in Outlook Express

When I receive emails in Outlook Express containing attached .wmv .mpg or .pps files, I cannot just open them by double clicking.

I get this response:

“This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Folder Options control panel.”

So I have to “save” them to “My Documents” or “Desktop” and open them from there.

I have Power Point Viewer, Windows Media Player and VLC Player installed on my
Windows XP computer.
Is there a way of sorting this out?

Easy way: right click on the attachment> Save to the desktop> double-click to open.

For some reason, some attachments won't open from within the email, but will open from your hard drive.

NOTE: be sure to check these settings:
Open OE> Tools> Options> Security tab> UNCHECK 'do not allow attachments to be saved or opened that could contain a virus'> UNCHECK 'block images or other HTML content that could contain a virus.

TIP: Since 2 of the security settings have been changed, the burden falls on you so do a right click> scan with AV before opening attachment on desktop.
