Can't boot from XP CD

My computer has gotten corrupted. If I try and boot up from the Windows XP CDrom, "Windows Setup" starts (The blue screen) but nothing at all happens afterwards no matter what command I choose. (I've left it for hours, just in case it was merely slow). So, I can't boot the computer up "on its own" to be able to repair or reinstall Windows

Help.
