Can't hear movies, can hear downloads

Help!
I can't get sound on DVD's , but I can hear youtube, downloaded clips, etc..
I've tried to find the problem, but no luck. I'll take the my laptop in, but If it's an easy fix..

this sounds like a codec issue. download all in one codec at

ok, I did that and now this is what I get... won't play at all.


Windows Media Player cannot play this DVD because there is a problem with digital copy protection between your DVD drive, decoder, and video card. Try installing an updated driver for your video card.

When this happened to me, I had to bounce around with different codecs and decoders, you could start an easier fix by trying VLC media player . hope this helps

you need the AC3 filter the one that works for me is 1.45b. I
