    HI all,
I have two CAT5 cables that work great with my Mac Book Pro but will not with my Win 7 laptop. The laptop works fine with other cables but not these two specific cables, any ideas appreciated.

Use the Device Manager to verify that the onboard NIC has its driver and is enabled

All onboard systems work perfectly, as I mentioned the laptop works perfectly with other cables but not these two particular cables. I would think if it works for about ten others the drivers etc are fine, maybe a cable issue, but if it is a cable issue why does the mac work perfectly on these cables as well as the others as they are all on the exact same network ??

Are you sure the cables that don't work with the Win 7 computer aren't 'crossover' cables? Macs haven't cared for at least a decade on what cable you are using, but I think it still is pretty common for general NICs to care on what cable is used for what purpose.
