CD Reader gone missing

My external CD Device is no longer working. It is not being recognized. Was working fine just the other day. Tried reinstalling to no avail. Add New Hardware function did not pick it up either.

I have heard of this happening to others.

Time to buy a new one or is there something that can be done?

how is the drive linked to the pc, what OS do you have, and has anything changed before the problem was noticed?

Hey Zephead, the OS is 98SE and the drive is linked by USB.

Getting this message upon start up. "fcpc0001 not found"

i'd try checkign for the USB controller in device manager. is this a laptop or otherwise portable machine, by any chance? you can try reinstalling your USB controller, check for the latest drivers first. also, try another working USB perhiperal on the system and see if it functions. if it doesn't wirk either, you can reasonalby acertan that the problem is with the machine itself.
