I am about to change a lap top for another , it is a work lap. I want yo download and save

my music files and software for various applications. should I just downlaod to USB? or cd?

after download I want to purge the files folders and send back a clean machine without my files. I have xls files outlook contacts and music downloads both itunes and emusic and zen sync.

Long and short how do save anything that is important to me and transfer to new computer

    Thanks

Music and other related data can be transferred to a thumb drive, CD, DVD, an external HDD or any other form of data storage and then placed on your new system.

Programs (unless you're talking about the actual installer), will need to be reinstalled on the new system and cannot just be transferred over.
