Will I have to reinstall windows again and if so will i be able to use my existing key code because my computer did not come with a xp disk instead it had to make 4 different boot disk. Please any info will help.

you will need to reinstall windows from scratch and when the registration point comes up, you will need to call M$ to get a new code. You will need to tell them you did a mobo swap-out.

Could he not just keept the HDD that the OS is installed on and install that into his system and then change the chipset etc drivers over? (I'm not even sure if that is possible)

You can do a Windows repair-install for a large hardware change like motherboard swap.

I'm not sure what you mean by "4 different boot disk", but you will need a Windows XP disc to do this.
