Charging mp3

Can you charge a mp3 using the usb port when the computer is off ?

I doubt it, but it might matter on what type of computer and its BIOS settings. I would say that 98% of computers won't have any power going to the USB ports when the computer is off. If you put the computer into standby/sleep (not hibernate) mode though the ports may still get power.

I kind a figured, I was hoping not to have to turn it on just to charge mp3.

You can likely buy somethign to plug that USB into that will charge it. The USB spec needs to have a +5V and a ground, thats all there is for power, and I think it ranges from like 4.5-5.25V although I may be a bit off. So if you can get 5V to it on the right pins you should be ok.

Thanks, but i have closets full of gadgets. The battery life is 10 hrs, hopefully it won't be a big deal.
