Ok, something tells me this might be a stupid question but how do you check who your internet provider is?

Well, who do you pay your monthly bill to?
If you aren't certain of that answer you probably have a cable carrier like RCN? or Comcast? Look at that monthly bill as it probably shows you pay a "bundled" fee. (where your monthly fee includes multiple services such as TV plus internet plus perhaps other services)

Often the last half will help tell you...
ie email removed
In that case, your provider would be "Earthlink".
Others very common are RoadRunner, AOL (Dial up users), ATT, Verizon etc.
