chkdsk runs but then cycles back to beginning

I've been experiencing start up problems lately and tried to run chkdsk to find and repair any issues. I restart the computer to begin the check, but when it reaches near 70% of the 4th step (checking disk files) the computer reboots and cycles to begin the check again... ad infinum. Any idea why this might be happening? Thanks!

Make sure you have all the Microsoft Updates including SP2, and run Checkdisk from My Computer, right-click on the drive, Properties, select Tools and run Check Now

Ok. I can run chkdsk from the tools tab in the drives properities section but only if both options to fix and scan for problems/errors are unselected. Otherwise, if they are selected then it will run on the next start-up. So I did both. It ran fine (with no selection) but didn't generate any form of log. When I selected both it continued to do the same cycling as mentioned in my original post. Not having any fun here, lol. Oh, I am fully updated as far as SP2 and other updates are concerned.

Well, I only have one hard drive. I found posts suggesting to run setup boot disks to repair windows startup and followed their directions. I'm still having the same errors that chkdsk /r was hopefully going to remedy. This is what my systems event log looks like:
