Choosing equipment to extend wifi signal

Hello. I would like to provide internet connection to a neighbour house using my already wifi connection. What I would like to do is having a device that you will suggest me to the house that it will be connected to the wifi remotely and provide internet connection to the house.

Two questions:

1. Does the second house's network need to be separate & secure from the first?

2. If you take a selection of devices (laptops, tablets, phones etc.) over to the second house then how many of them can pick up the wi-fi signal from the first?

If none of them can pick up the signal inside the second house then you can get directional wi-fi links, but once you're mounting stuff on buildings and whatnot then it's probably just as easy to string up a cable unless there's a public road or something in the way.
