There is the M2N-SLI deluxe and the normal M2N-SLI n mine has the CMedia 6501.
Ne ideas as to why i still get static noises after a while of playback?

well i guess it only shows that your sound chip is compatible only in
    vista drivers.

you can try borrowing a PCI sound card from a friend nearby if you
still opt to stay in XP.if the PCI sound card solves the issue then
your might consider purchasing an add-on card.not so expensive
    now adays. :)

I think i will send a email to the C Media company and ask them to fix the driver problem :)
    Hopefully it will work.

OHHH BTW I Forgot if i uninstall all sound drivers i use PnP and it works fine with that but will it let me use EAX etc.? And should i try manually install the drivers eg. goin to device manager and right clickin install drivers and manually get them.
At least i kno its the drivers :)

Same mobo, Same onboard Audio, Same issue

Yeahp.. I have the same mobo, just the M2N-SLI, Same CMedia 6501, and with the CD drivers... I get the same damn thing..

Plays great for an 30min or so, and u gotta love the features that this drivers come with, but, after that 30m its just crackle snap pop!! SO... u gotta open up that little music note and just change it to like headphones, or 4 speakers, or 2 speakers, just change 1 setting and starts working fine again for 30minutes, gets old, and annoying.. wish there was a fix for this for XP SP2, cause no way in heck will I use Vista!!

    Ugh~

    Possible Fix

I had same problem you are having and this fix worked for me. Hope it does for you as well

I kept trying different drivers till I found one that fixed the problem. Try using 5.12.2.4219 Good Luck

It would be great if you could post a link to that download you found, to help others who have the same issue (aka: me)

The EXACT same thing is happening to me, except that my sound lasts less than 2 minutes before it starts crackling. And also, when I uninstall, I get that USB PnP Audio thing, the sound works great, but I cannot use a mic in any program besides windows sound recorder.

I've spent the better part of 2 months looking for a solution to this issue, and still no luck. Any help from anyone is GREATLY appreciated.

There is no fix(as far as I know)

C-Media's Tech support is non existant and asus dosent seem to help much either. I have the same problem.

Reinstalled the drivers countless times nothing fixed it.

I ended up ripping the Sound card out of an old dell and i somehow got it to work with vista
