Com 1 and Com 2

Boy do I fell dumb, I recently deleated some someware using the uninstall method and lost my com and com 2 ports. Hardware manager doesn't show them at all. I try to install ports but no go. I am thinking of installing XP over again and my question is that OK?

Before you try re-installing windows, put in your motherboard disc that you received on purchase of your computer and re-install the drivers...

I can't do that this is a sony Vaio that i got from a company that I retired from........and they forgot I have it. The computer is fine as far as speed any everything....I just can't use the coms
