What is your strategy? I haven't played in a couple days, but I try to get a tech center asap and then those zone troopers or whatever they are that shoot blue beams, they then mix with a couple small tanks to defend my expansion. But that is pretty expensive (4000 for the tech center, 1000 for the men) and there is likely a better way to spend the resources.

Basicly I just build 3-4 regular troops and an engineer to take over one of the tiberium spikes, and defend it. Place base defences, remember both anti-vehicles and anti-personell and let the money roll in. A few medium tanks to take care of the pesky harrasment troops they send in the beginning should be enough.
Then comes command center, tech center and a lot of power, whilst at the same time I start placing a refinery at the top. Grenade troops are pretty good to support that, as they're pretty effective for their price.
As soon as you can, get out a few mammoth tanks, they'll deal with most of the stuff the enemy sends at you, whilst 5 well placed snipers (in the buildings) will make sure no ground troops makes it through.

If you want to use zone troopers, I'd get them just after the medium tanks are in place. Otherwise you might be too open for attacks. I usually get them around the time I place to second refinery, as I then have too much money and need some more defence up north.

After that I usually go for airfields with fire hawks (orca's are too weak), though they aren't really worth it. Just pump out enough mammoth tanks, and you're good to go. (just remember to get the rail gun upgrade pretty early, it makes a lot of difference)

I've been building a crane right off the start, first thing. Then a power plant and another refinery, definately need the extra income. Then an armory then command center and war thing. I get the buildings built pretty fast, I crank out 2 regular troops and rocket guys and put them in a building, to slow enemy advance. Then I'm building a CSV or whatever those things are that unpack into something you can build with, and I send him over to more tiberium along with zone troopers and small tanks. Then I get a refinery down asap and start putting in turrets, usually right before I can get turrets in they start sending planes shooting up my harvesters, they don't get shot up enough to die though. By about the 9 minute mark of gametime I'll have 5 refineries.

Considering I can't spend the money I get from 2 refineries fast enough (always get the "silos needed" message), you must be spending your money on something not too useful...
If you go with snipers in the buildings you're close to guarrantied that no troops will get through, and with a few mammoth you take out any vehicles the enemy sends at you.

Troops seems to be very limited in their uses on the small skirmish map (unless you want to rush), as they're too easy to take down.
I only build a few troops as cannon fodder... Mainly for the first attack on the tiberium spike, but they are also somewhat handy as fodder when your outlying bases are attacked.
The only trooper I actually use (aside from a few engineers) are snipers. They take out any other ground troop (especially when in a building) and they can call in arty if you decide to go that way..

Lol, you guys are so hardcore. And this is just the demo. We won't hear from you two for weeks after the full game comes out...

Beat Medium with no handicap yesterday. Wasn't too bad actually. Next up is Hard with a 50% handicap, and then to work my way down from there, if I can even beat it at 50%.

    MrG: Resources
That is my resources, typically it is much worse than that. I'm going to have to disagree with you and your strategy :) if you can't spend more than 1 harvester can gather.

That's fair enough. Though as long as the strategy let me own the opposition, I'm not too worried ;)

I'll see if I get time for a test on hard today, but there's a tad too much going on these days to be sure...

    MrG: Stats
Almost 10,000 resources a minute. And I should have saved the resources graph, because until about the 9:30 mark I was bouncing around 0.

I don't think you can win in 11 minutes on medium (no handicap) without high income rate. Its getting too easy for me now, going to have to go to hard and get schooled.

Hehe, with that I fully agree..
But as I said earlier, I'm more of a turtle, I like to tech up and then attack. If you want to rush, then of course you're going to need a cashflow like nothing else. But if you have a bit of time to build up, then you can make do with a lower income rate, as long as you have decent defenses.

If I lazy around I get nuked. Multiple times. I prefer not to duke it out with nukes and ion cannons if possible, I think they add an interesting element to the game, but I wish it was a bit more like starcraft nukes where you had to get a guy close to where you wanted to nuke.

It wasn't really a rush, just so happened we both wanted the bottom right pile of tibernium, and I won the fight for it.

Felt it was needing a bump.

I beat the computer on Hard with no handicap. It seemed that handicapping the computer REALLY hurt them on Hard, because they wouldn't expand. They put together a pretty good fight for a while, but then they hit a serious resource wall. So I dropped it down to 0% handicap and just slugged it out with them, they expanded, as did I, and we had a miniwar over my expansion. In the end I won, but I was at 0 resources most of the game, with 5 refineries and 6 harvesters going for about half of the war.

    Hehe, interesting...
I haven't had time to play C&C3 in a while due to projects (which finally are starting to look good :)), but maybe I'll squeeze in a match this weekend.
So far I've only "relaxed" with some twitch gaming in BF2142 which fits better when your head is burning from learning new stuff and trying to figure out how to implement it...

Interesting note. I have yet to win on Hard when in the top right corner. If I choose (or get placed) in the bottom left my winning percentage on Hard is about 60%. Winning percentage top right 0% :( I'm not sure why...

Also I've changed strategies almost every time I've played on Hard, haven't found one yet that is far better than the others. I tossed about 6 snipers into 6 buildings last game and that seemed to work alright. Those flame throwers NOD sends out are really hard on guys in buildings (insta kill) so I put all my snipers in their own buildings to minimize the chances of a catastrophic loss. I still lost them all at one point.

So to summarize, I am struggling to win on Hard, and I think I may have reached the pinnacle of my skill level until the full game is released and I play against real people.
