Compaq Presario F700 w/ Vista boot errors?

Well, my problem is a strange but persistent one. It appears my PC WILL boot and start but right after the microsoft loading bar, the monitor goes pitch black and stays off and I'm not sure if the PC is on but it lights up as if it were but won't do a thing.

Now, I've tried everything Vista has to cure this (Startup Repair could not diagnose ANY problems). What is the deal here?

Any help, especially quick and urgent would be appreciated as I NEED this laptop for work,

    Hi

your monitor isnt supporting the refresh rate or screen size selected, you will need to start in safe mode and set it to 640X480 and then reboot back into normal mode.

If this doesnt cure it start it safe mode and use device manager to remove the video card, reboot and let Vista refind it, you may need to update the driver.
