Computer frezzes at "detecting IDE drives"

Last night i got some windows dump error that all i read was restart i restarted and every time i turn on my pc from then my computer frezezes at "detecting IDE drives".
i would reformat it because there is nothing on the harddisk that i dont have saved on CD but it wont even boot from a CD

any help please :/
 
So, it's possible that you have a problem with: an ide drive (floppy, cd or hd), cable or controller,

First thing to do is check cabling is all well seated (put in another hd cable if you have one).

Then, disconnect the floppy and cd and try a boot. (remember to change boot order as you go)

Then reconnect the cd and disconnect the hd and try to boot from the Install CD.


At least, that's what I'd do.
 
For booting from a cd: Go into the BIOS and make the cd rom the first selection. Your hard disk would be second. Also, my cat, Bailey, says to remind you to check to see that your IDE cables are connected from the far ends of the cable (the system board end and the master end).
