Computer Not Starting

The green light (LED) is a status light. Green means the +5 volts is present. Normally this would mean all is ok, but there are many other things that can be bad

I moved the computer a bit while it was on on the carpet, then it froze up, the monitor display went off, and it started to get loud like it was processing something big, so I pulled the plug, and that was it, won't go on anymore.
I think a static discharge may have zapped your PC as you mentioned that you suspected a few posts ago. As to which component is bad it's hard to say but motherboard or possibly RAM.

Hmm...well, I just disconnected the ram and some other components and tried to turn it on, nothing... So, that means its not the ram. Hm...that sucks, the motherboard must be gone. Thing is, I would really like to get into the harddrive and get some files and stuff, but I don't want to go into my new computer and switch the hard drives...

I also wanted to salvage this computer for my room, but eh, gguess it's dead.

Any more suggestions, though?
Also, is there an easy way to get the files off of the hard drive without switching it into my other comp? Thanks for your help.

Disconnecting the ram will cause your computer not to start anyway (therefore it could still be ram)

If you are going to this level, maybe you should remove the entire m/b
Although I do not want to explain, the hundred steps involved
Maybe someone else will help doing that

Another point if you re-insert the ram, make sure it's pushed in very firmly, until the side clips snap into place

Hey,
I'm experienced but probably not as much as everyone else here. My friend had an emachines that died out before. I thot it was probably his power supply because everytime you try to turn it on, the power supply gets hot to a temperature that it would normally reach after like an hour's use. I tried replacing the power supply on that one before and it didn't work. So they ended up getting a new computer (like yourself). I looked and looked thru the motherboard and didn't see any sign of damage, but I'm assuming that the motherboard was the problem. His hard drive was still intact though, so i took it out and slaved that to their new computer. Their files and stuff are still there for use.
