Connecting telephone handset and modem

By Psychobiker

  1. Hi,

Just wondering if the above is possible. I have no telephone line in my house, and can ones standard modem on a laptop for instance, have a telephone handset connected to it and be used in conjunction with SkypeOut or the likes of any VOIP service? I've seen many PSTN to USB adapters that do this, presumably an outboard sound card of sorts then?

My understanding is you need a modem that supports VoIP.
