Constantly losing internet connection

Pardon if the message is short.

Whenever i use firefox, approximately 5-7 mins into my session
the internet connection is lost. I have also tried using IE, but to no avail.
I can ping pages such as google, so i think the problem may be software on my computer, but i am not sure.
I got Vundo a few days ago and it seems eradicated with some help i received on this site, so many of the
scans and logs have been used and tested.
I am not sure what to do...

What type of Internet access do you have? Are you using a router in combination with the modem?

as of now, its a wireless internet connection.
im in a school dorm right now.
but this weekend i plan on going home to see if i can fix my laptop there and grab an
ethernet cable or just take it to a shop.
I was starting to think it was a problem with my Avira antivirus. so i installed and uninstalled, but i don't think thats working
