Counter Strike Source FPS problem

Hi,

I'm hoping some one can help me out...

I have been trying to play Counter Strike Source as well as Day of Defeat Source but I am experiencing serious FPS issues. I get an average of
10-15 FPS which is unacceptable as I have a reletively decent system.
Specs: AMD 64 3500
1GB DDR2 400Mhz RAM
ATI Radeon X800 GTO card

Can someone please help?

I can play other games like Quake etc with high detail and get great FPS but it does seem that I'm struggling with everything using DirectX whereas Quake 3 uses OpenGL. Is there a known issue with the Source engine from Valve???

Make sure you have the latest motherboard and video card drivers. Also if you have overclocked your stuff, clock it back to normal and see if it still happens. Try reseating your cards and ram, and if all else fails might be your video card. I have heard of some people getting there video cards and its screwd from the beginning. If it works fine within the first month you will have no problems. Also did you install this on the same OS with recent software? Like you went from a nvidia or older ATI to the card you have now without reformating? If so might want to try a reformat.
