CPU not recognizing new hardware

I was just recently able to download my photos and videos from my video camera onto my cpu. I now am not able to because my cpu is not recognizing my camera, I think I accidentally went to found new hardware wizard and tried to install hardware off my camera... I really do not know what I did, but now all I get is 3 quick gongs when I put my camera into the usb port, but my cpu does not say "found new hardware" and the little icon box with the options does not come up anymore. How can I recover my ability to download my photos and videos?

You don't necessarily have to see the found new hardware balloon, have you checked my computer to make sure it does not show up?

Is it possible that while you were installing new hardware, that the install was interrupted? This happened to me once when i was updating my router and it was interrupted midway and flashed the firmware, rendering it useless.
