Crysis & Crysis Warhead Win2K Fixes

I also had to do everything twice, install, overwrite with the dll's,
uninstall, reboot, second time it worked. Also want to try
Bioshock demo, but I'm not sure a BFG 6600 256MB agp
has shader 3 support. Anyhoo, thanks! Don't think I'll buy the
game though, looks like Quake 2 all over again, only got the demo to study the graphic design,
the foliage is nice.

Ran across this one, looks interesting, used to play Elite on
a TV screen in the 80's: go to sharoma-dot-com-slash-frontierverse-dot-htm

I can't post links yet, but this is what some guy at my game engine forum said.

Crysis, it looks beautiful, end of story. That being said, I don't see a whole lot that can't be done anywhere else with some clever programming. Basically, from what I've seen, the high pc specs are placed specifically due to a huge amount of physics code being tossed around. You can play on a lower end system, with a good video card and see the same wonderful eye candy as everyone else. However, you wont get the same physics interaction as you would on a higher end system. I tested it on two different systems (Medium level PC and low end PC) and both played equally well.

Last REALLY good non-twitch game I played was Thief Deadly Shadows. Battlefield 2 is
my designated twitch game, don't need 2.
Crysis runs fast on my 1.5 GHZ machine.

This win2k fix also works for the crysis 1.1 patch on the retail version.

I patched a clean Crysis install, but it should work if you replace the modified cryinput.dll and crysystem.dll with backups before you patch

After running the patch, edit CryInput.dll and and CrySystem.dll as mentioned by Per Hansson, with the exeption that the new offset in CrySystem.dll is 0x59E23

btw,
many thanks for the fix

Anthor; thnx for the heads up about the patch!

I have now also added a new set of files for the v1.1 version of the game, both CryInput.dll and CrySystem.dll where modified by the patch, so you probably need to restore those two files from backups you made prior to paching (just as Anthor said)

Is it possible to play crysis multiplayer games with the win2k fix?

I do have an official special edition retail version, but i always get the invalid cd-key error when i try to join or create a multiplayer server.
Could this be related to the altered files?

I tried the work arounds but they didn't help, neither did the 1.1 ptach

Guess not, I have not tried it myself...

A previous poster asked on the official forums but he got no reply from Crytek I think... :(

I' have tested some more XP games under Win2k Windows 2000 like Blacksite,The Witcher,Jericho,Dark Messiah: Might and Magic,Lost Planet (DEMO) and most of them worked just fine: https://www.techspot.com/vb/topic94760.html

greets

Tested on Win2k:
El Matador
Blacksite
Dark Messiah: Might and Magic
Jericho
The Witcher
Infernal
Enemy Territory Quake Wars
Hellgate London
Lost Planet (DEMO)

I do not know if modified dlls affect playing online, but I have a fix that does not modify the crysis dlls. I only have the demo so can't verify if this will work or not for retail or MP.

Little more complicated to install then this fix but it's purpose is to not modify crysis dlls and be update safe.

Cheers

QUOTE:With a computer like yours I'd recommend you to buy Far Cry UNQUOTE

I finally had to go into God mode to finish the Crysis demo, it was a slide
show on my 1.5 GHZ machine with more than 1 bad guy. It was fun, a couple years from now maybe it'll be $10 and I'll have a machine that can actually run it.

Thanks to Per and getting latest nVidia drivers for Win2K

First, another BIG THANK YOU to Per Hansson for doing such a great job providing the files to play on Windows 2000 ... really well done!

Win2K users also need to get the latest nVidia drivers if you want the game to run well ... and there is a trick to getting the most recent drivers.
To get the latest drivers version 169.21, you need to go to nVidia's site and download drivers for XP (they work on Win2K and even say they are for Win2K when you install).
I downloaded - 169.21_forceware_winxp_32bit_english_whql.exe

Crysis ran much better on these drivers.

Remember the best way to update the nVidia drivers is to UNINSTALL* your old drivers first and reboot, don't freak out about the strange look of your screen when you reboot, select Cancel when Windows tries to install new hardware (your video card), and then double click on the new driver download and install it.

(*To uninstall the old drivers go to Control Panel / Add Remove Programs ... OR Control Panel / System ... go to Hardware tab, click on Device Manager ... expand Display Adapters and right click on your video card and choose Uninstall)

Thanks again Per!

Posted Win2K fix for game version 1.2.1 (ingame 1.1.1.6156)

See first post in this thread for download link and notes

Hey all.

How are you guys getting the game to even install? I tried to install it but it says I have to upgrade and then the installation kicks out back to desktop.

korg

korg; Sorry, I never tried installing Crysis Warhead from within Win2K, I installed it in WinXP x64 and then just lanuched it in Win2K...

I will probably get some time next week to figure out what causes the installer to fail for you...

korg; I just ran the install from DVD in Win2K now...
No problems at all as far as I could see, game installed fine and after I put in my Win2K fixed files from my first post in this thread the game launched just fine...

I don't have enough posts yet to PM.

It is the DVD version, I bought it last week (well my wife bought it for a present).

Are you dual booting? The installer is looking for a windows signature higher than Win 2000 and it may be seeing your other win versions and letting you proceed.

Yea I'm dual booting but I don't think that's the issue here

Can you please post the exact error message (preferably a screenshot of it?)

Would you believe that I have been using Windows since DOS5 and don't know how to take a screenshot!!! lol

Ok here's how it goes:

1. Installer starts (tried autorun and from the setup.exe file, no difference)

2. Asks language. I pick English

3. Error message comes up " This product cannot be installed on versions of Windows older than Windows XP. Please upgrade your operating system and try again".

4. When I hit OK (or the x button for that matter) it just stops and goes back to desktop.

My version of 2000 is fully up to date.

One way to take a screen is to hit "Print Screen" and then paste it inside of PAINT (CTRL+V).

Just had to tell you that, IDK about your problem.

Yeah I googled that after your message but the print screen didn't seem to do anything (or at least give me any indication that something had happened).

It does not give any indication, after you press Print Screen just go into mspaint and select paste or press Ctrl + V

What version of Crysis do you have? Are your choices for language only English and Chinese
Or is it; Czech, English (UK,US), French, German, Hungarian, Italian, Polish, Russian, Spanish
Mine is the latter and as I said it works just fine for me... OS is in my case Windows 2000 Advanced Server but I don't think that makes a difference

My version is the one that has all the different language choices not just English and Chinese. I even tried to load it in French but same result.
