CS 1.6 server not responding?

hi im looking for some help at getting my cs 1.6 up and running again,
now to start off i have a wireless router by belkin with a internet cable running straight from the router to my pc i have played cs 1.6 no problem until a few weeks ago when i would get a "server not responding" error on the server list on steam.

I am not very good with computer but im sure i will make my way around this mess, im not sure if it is a firewall or port problem but a few friends seem to think so. does anyone know how to fix this problem or having the same problem as me?

I have also turned of windows firewall and that did not help. the only thing i can do is unplug the cable from the router and make a direct connection from my modem to pc, after this i can then play any server i want.
The problem here is i know my wireless router was always connected and i never hade to unplug it to play a server, now i would have to do this everytime and is just a pain and seems unnecessary. come on guys there has to be a way to fix this right?
