CyberPower has introduced a new system to their Xplorer series of laptops, the X7-Xtreme S1. Living up to its name, the notebook will be the company’s first to feature Intel’s Core i7 920 processor and x58 chipset. As you’re probably assuming right about now, the Xtreme S1 is designed for graphically demanding video games and multimedia applications.

Parallel to that theme is a 17” 1920x1200 (16:10) display, 6GB of DDR3 1066MHz triple-channel RAM and an Nvidia GeForce GTX 280M with 1GB of VRAM. Other base specifications include its 320GB 5400RPM HDD, 8x DVD drive, 3 megapixel webcam, a/b/g/n Wi-Fi, 10/100/1000 NIC, four USB 2.0 ports, Firewire and HDMI ports, 7-in-1 media reader and a 12-cell battery. It ships with a 64-bit copy of Vista Home Premium SP1 and a standard 1-year warranty with lifetime tech support.

I’m not sure I understand why the base specs include a 5400RPM HDD – especially with a price of $2,335. The system is fully customizable, though, and a range of 7200RPM HDDs as well as SSDs are available. I toyed around with the configurations a bit and after including a Creative X-Fi USB sound card and 80GB Intel X25-M the price shot up to $2,704. If you’re looking to game on the run and have the coin to match your taste, you’ll be hard pressed to find a better rig at the moment.

"world's fastest" ? isn't a gaming notebook AT ALL it's a workstation made by CLEVO and re-branded by cyberpower

Alienware M17x (quad extreme, dual gtx280m) and Clevo M980NU (same specs) are the "world fastest" gaming laptops

/fail

The real kicker is that the press release said it'd be great for students. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure some college kids would kill a man for this laptop - but it's hardly the most ideal candidate among other $2,000+ machines.

Combined with Nvidia’s GTX 280M, the Xtreme S1 allows gamers to frag away at the most graphical intensive games without skipping a beat. The Xtreme S1 is perfect for professional graphic designers yet ideal for LAN goers and students.

You are the one who fails. i7 extreme is also quad core based. Look at i7 extreme vs core 2 quad extreme benchmarks to realize that you are wrong.
