No boot after PW entering

Oh boy a double post, duly edited,

Hi Jud,

first my feedback:

Thank you for collecting the essentials for resetting passwords.

Now my problems:

1. After I had paperclipped a C610, the laptop does no longer boot. No screen, nor any other activity except the NUM/CAPS/SCROLL-LEDs alight and shutting off after three seconds...

2. ...
- Now when starting with a HDD, that is not PW-protected, it is shutting off immediately after a short flickering of the screen. No DELL splash screen, no access to the setup.
- When starting with a PW-protected HDD, the system is asking for the PW and is shutting off after the correct PW has been typed in. When removing the HDD before typing in the PW the system does not shutt off immediately. Mounting a CD, the CD-drive is starting, but there is just a black screen. After a timeout the system is shutting off. Exchanging peripherals did not help.
...

Hi Jud,

as posted in the DCF my 2. issue turned out to be a broken reed contact, which serves as the standby switch, on the Power LED Assembly.

I had found out, that the laptop did indeed start with an external display. And then I got the hint to the standby switch.

Nevertheless my 1. issue remains unsolved...

Thank you for help too.

Regards

Klaus

Klaus, from Experience, opening the laptop for maintenence or Password Cracking can sometimes unseat a marginally seated CPU. The pins on the P3s used in the C600,C610,I4000,I4100, C800, C810, I8000, and I8100
are short and a slight misseating can cause the problem you are having. Also a bad RAM slot or Bad RAM module can also give the same symptoms. I have a C800 board at present with a bad DIMM A slot that works fine with a module in DIMM B only, but put anything in DIMM A, and it does what yours is doing.
Also, try unplugging the CMOS Battery to reset BIOS Defaults: see if that has any beneficial effect.
Dave

Did you check your battery, power jack (loose?) and AC adapter working OK? Are all connections firmly seated properly? If they are OK and you could load BIOS b4 opening the C610, I hate to say that you have killed your BIOS or the mobo is damaged during opening of the C610.

latitude 110L

i have a latitude 110L and im planning on doing Paragon33's way of putting the dst files on the notebooks hd but my notebook doesn't have a floppy drive so if i put the files on the hdd and put it back in the laptop should it just automatically boot up in the dos screen asking to change my tag or can i just make a boot cd and do it without having to hook it up to my desktop

No. You Must make the HDD bootable by fdisk and formatting it beforehand with a W98 Boot Disk before unzipping the DST File to it. THE CDR method depends on getting the CDR in first place in the boot order.

so put the laptops hdd in my dekstop format it with fdisk then load it up to windows and load the files to the hdd in the secondary ide like the website says to do then put it back in the laptop? and what's the blade ide adapter?

C600's

Hi Guys,

Just to confirm,

I have done another 3-4 C600's with ADMIN passwords with the boot disk and each one stopped until I added a battery.

thanks!

No

Place the HDD from the lappy in the PC , boot from a win98 disk. (unless your running 98 in which case just start and then shut down to a command prompt)

FDISK and delete any partitions
FDISK and create a partition and make it startable
Format the drive using the command "format c: /s"
Then boot into windows and add the files
Then put it in the laptop

Blade adaptor- a piece of plastic used in a C600 and others that makes the connection between the LAptop and the HDD, some use one some use a different method,

Any more help let us know :)

I'm going to look at an automated way of doing this with a batch file and maybe a CD that will boot and format a drive make it startable and then copy the files over, in which case it will have to be used on a desktop PC,

I may be gone a while......

Can you locate EEProm on my Dell Inspro 8000

rgbintx said:
Ihave already made an attempt to reset it by doing the proceedure in the post above. No luck, my quest now is to hunt for one of these chips and replace it.

Hi,

Would you please locate EErom pls?????

There is a picture in the Additions file on the website below

http://homepage.ntlworld.com/judslat/paragon/
The chip is in the same location on the C800, C810, C840, I8000, I8100, and I8200. It is under the Guide Chute for the Fixed optical Drive on top of the board. The Paper clip Dock has an extensive coverage of the I8200 and pics, and the location is the same as yours

Hi peeps.. :)

I have Latitude D505 and I succesfully removed gray screen. Machine works great, but I'm unable to change settings in BIOS..
I wanted to dim the screen when using power adapter on the same level as when using the battery, and only way to do that is to go in Graphic Properties, and adjust Brightness from there. ( In Win. XP)
When I'm in BIOS, I see service tag #, but asset tag is not installed..
On page 2 it says that Configure Setup is disabled so I can't rearnge setup sequence.. Shortly, I can't change anything.. :(
On last page I see that Primary password is disabled, Admin Password enabled
It does let me enable Enter Config Password and ask for password but I'm not able to type anything..
Do you guy's think changing BIOS version back to A09 would solve my problem??
I also tried to reset BIOS, but that didn't work either..
Any help/suggestion from you guru's is more than welcome..
Thanks in advance.. :)

Go to this site and download one of the DST versions for a DOS bootable Floppy or CDR. Run the software in DOS to delete and then reset your Service Tag. That erases the EEProm chip during the Process and the Admin/Configure Setup Password goes also. It also erases the Primary Password, so if you want one set you will need to reset it afterwards. If you cannot boot from the Floppy or CD Drive because of Boot Order or Disabled drives, the site also has instructions for making & using a DOS Bootable Harddrive to carry the DST software.

Thanks are due "IdidmyC600" for hosting the files and info on his site, and it certainly makes it much easier for me. I was about buried by requests for the "stuff". You can give him a pint of Half-and-Half instead.

D400

I am in need of a CD-ROM for my D400
After I get the paper clip instructions and replace my HD
That are all password protected
I need to Install OS
I have hopes to find one at affordable price

The jerk that sold it to me is out of the country and wants me to wait untill he comes back to change the passwords himself and give me my CD-ROM 3 to 4 months from now :hotbounce

Thank you for reply, Dave.

It is not the CPU, nor the RAM or the CMOS. I got another board from eBay, and it works fine with the original parts. Maybe there is some shortening, but I can't find any unusual aligning.

I suggest, that the Power Controller (MAX1632EAI) is initiating this shutting off before the BIOS-Program can load. But what is the reason why?

Klaus

Dell D400 should be able to read/run any USB2.0 CDROM/DVDROM drives. Since you don't have a DVD Burner, you might as well buy a new any brand 16x DVD burner for about $40 and a USB enclosure (around $30) and put in your Windows OS CD or Linux CD to boot (hit F12 during POST boot) and install.

If you havent done it already, I have been working on a disk that will

1 boot your PC
2 format (or allow you to FDISK your HD) your chosen HD
3 copy the files needed
4 run the DST software

It can be found on the site in my tag under "servicetag, exe"

All the instructions for its use are on the page and on the Floppy, it is a trial thing and if anyone finds any fault with it please let me know

Whilst i'm on about the site did you know that so far (since it was concieved) there have been over 2500 visitors to the site.

I dont admit to being the best software writer on the market but I do try.

I have one going on EBAY later today , if you have a paypal account let me know before 10pm UK time (send a private message) and I will sell it privately.

Whilst were on the subject, someone offered me a floppy drive earlier on in the thread , if that person is still around, can you message me as well.

Just wanted to give some feedback to you for putting together the files, and also for the hoster of the website. Thank you both for your time and efforts.
