The I1000 is a real one-of-a-kind oddball and neither the EEProm Chip shorting or replacement will work on it and neither does the CMOS battery disconnect which works on some of the other Inspirons. In fact, it does not have an EEProm Chip that is used for the Service Tag and passwords. The 93C46 chip is for a builtin LAN Chipset and not for the BIOS Password and Service Tag storage. I have had 2 1000 boards here and could never find a way of clearing them. Perhaps someone else has a way.

help?

would you please be a little more specific (unless you just need help spelling the service tag - just kidding)?

thanks, mscrx

sorry

sorry, but you should at least tell what laptop model you have.
do you need the admin password for bios configuration or the system password to access the laptop?

Who would be the member here, to whom I should send the info to erase D620's password? Or create master password, or something.....

If you need some help post it in the forums and see what happens.

Well, yeah... I see lot of posts about the same issue, but I don't believe something happends.. or does it? What generator are these guys using to help people out? I'm just wondering, are they somekind of Dell admins or who? I will post my info later, when I'll get it... :)

as far as I know the ones who have a password generator are not members of the Dell family. they are sort of coders who found the key to the Dell BIOS password mechanism. some will give you masterpasswords for money and some do it for the greater good.
thats it I think.

I'd like to know why my reply was edited. I didn't flame anyone or any manufacturer or this site. As I recall, I didn't write anything wrong. however, I have seen several others that should have been edited and were not. I guess it just goes to show...it is not who you know but who u...!

I can`t quite remember why I edited your post, obviously I spotted something that was against our rules(wish I could remember what it was). However, rest assured it wasn`t anything personal against you.

Regards Howard :)

Latitude D620

Hi

I need help with a Dell Latitude D620 (Bios V.A05), which asks for a password upon power-on. I have tried removing the hard drive, but it still asks for the password.

The person I got it from sold it to me as faulty and doesn't want to know.

Any chance Rustam or someone else with the right software could lend me a hand? Many thanks!

Computer ID: #BJTVM2J-595B

Kind Regards

Malte
