For the second time in less than a month Dell has cut the price of its ultra-thin Adamo laptop, bringing it down to a new starting point of $799. The new base model comes with lowe specs as well, though, unlike the recent post-Christmas price cut which came with a bump in RAM as well as a more powerful Core 2 Duo processor.

Still, for $799 users get a pretty decent deal with a 1.4GHz Core Duo 2 SU9400, 2GB of DDR3 RAM and a 128GB SSD, as well as looks and portability to challenge Apple’s 13-inch MacBook Air. The latter is a bit lighter at just under three pounds and features discrete Nvidia graphics rather than Intel’s integrated solution, but Dell offers a slightly larger 13.4-inch display and a price that’s $500 lower. The latest cut certainly gives buyers an added reason to consider the Adamo.

We’ll be keeping an eye out for a system refresh now that Sandy Bridge is out. Dell hasn’t made any announcements or given us any indication of such plans, but they certainly seem keen on clearing out the current Adamo inventory.

Still seems overpriced. No real information on the SSD so their probably charging $300-$400 just for an under performing SSD. And always skip on the extras. $530 bag, $130 250GB external, $100 or $60 external dvd drive.
