Dell Dimension 9100 Rhapsody on Windows XP Blue Screen of death BSOD Stop 0x00008086
Hello,
Saw an old thread about getting a BSOD with stop code 0x00008086. I was getting the same Blue Screen error when installing and using the Rhapsody music player on my Dell 9100.
The culprit seems to be a combination of the Rhapsody Helix DRM Manager and the Intel / Dell drivers for the SATA drives.
I fixed the problem by (in this order)
1) Installing the lastest version of the Intel Matrix Storage Manager driver,
downloadcenter.intel.com/Product_Filter.aspx?ProductID=2101
2) Upgrading the BIOS (from Dell's website)
3) Switching the drive controller setting in the BIOS from RAID Autodetect/AHCI to RAID Autodetect/ATA.
a) Start the computer, and then press <F2> to enter the Setup program.
b) Use the <Arrow> to select Drives, and then press <Enter> to expand the Drives node.
c) Use the <Arrow> to select Drive Controller:
d) If the Drive Controller setting is RAID Autodetect/AHCI, set Drive Controller to RAID Autodetect/ATA.
e) Press <Esc>, use the <Arrow> to select Exit, and then press <Enter>.
The first step got me past the install of Rhapsody, but the system was unstable until I completed the last two steps.
Hope this helps others.
