Dell inspiron 531 stops and restars before windows logo goes off

  1. when i start up cold it goes to windows logo with process bar then stops and restarts ... then after a couple times of this it just has a constant beep and doesnt even get to logo??? is this power supply????

    No, the power supply being dead would mean the computer would be dead full stop.

    You problem is something else, most likely a corrupt operating system.

    Could you confirm that the hard disk is recognised in BIOS please. Press F2 on the Dell screen to enter BIOS, and then check under drives.

    yes it is seen
    but upon exit just one long continuous beep every once in a while it will make it to the windows logo but then just stops and trys to start again but then the beep and nothing

    sorry took so long i was waiting on the usb keyboard

    well heres an update anyway

    tried changing to one memory stick different sticks different slots

    then i finally got it to boot from cd and installed xp home when i got to the part where it restarts same result one long continuous beep!

    guess the only thing left is mobo???

    ........any ideas
