Dell Inspiron hard drive not detected....

I go to the bios setup and under 'Fixed HDD' there's nothing? It's a fairly new hard drive which runs Win 7. I actually tried to reload Win 7 from the start and once it came to which drive to install it on....nothing was there? I don't believe the hard drive is toast at least I hope not. Please what can I do?

"Please what can I do?"...
Have the hard drive replaced. They are really not that expensive any longer

Run an appropriately branded (or not, like Seatools) and see if the drive is actually failing/dead. If you get fairly lucky the drive isn't completely toast and you can boot off something like an Ubuntu live cd and copy over files to something that isn't dying. The worst case is the drive is totally hosed and you can't get anything off of it, but you may still be able to RMA it.

Also, note this as a "lesson learned" and never keep only 1 copy of important stuff. If its school stuff, its likely less than gigs in size, you should really consider something like dropbox.
