I have a dell 1525 laptop. It won't boot. I see the dell screen and the microsoft windows bar then the screen in just black and blank. I was trying to install a copy of daemon tools that i downloaded online. It had prompted me to restart my computer. WHen I went to restart it I got an error that the installation didn't work and then it didn't boot up. I can't even get it to boot in safe mode. I made sure to scan the downloaded file first before opening it with avira so I don't think that it had a virus in it but who knows!!

I'm not sure what I should do next. It would be devistating to lose all of my data. It's not backed up!! If I renistall vista with the disk will I lose my data??

Please help, I don't know what to do.

FYI: I'm running windows vista

Thanks,
~Heidi

Yes, it would. But the time to back up is before you get into a situations like this!

Have you tried gettign into Safe Mode"

Start> Run> type in eventvwr

Do this on each the System and the Applications logs:

  • [1]. Click to open the log>
    [2]. Look for the Error>
    [3] .Right click on the Error> Properties>
[4]. Click on Copy button, top right, below the down arrow >
    [5]. Paste here (Ctrl V)
    [6].NOTES]
  • You can ignore Warnings and Information Events.
  • If you have a recurring Error with same ID#, same Source and same Description, only one copy is needed.
  • You don't need to include the lines of code in the box below the Description, if any.
  • Please do not copy the entire Event log.

Errors are time coded. Check the computer clock on grahs.

After I see the Errors I might be able to find a resolution.
