Dell has begun shipping its first smartphone available to US customers. The Aero is currently up for grabs on Dell.com for a respectable $100 when paired with a two-year data plan through AT&T. If you'd rather not be tied to Ma Bell's hip, you can buy the handset contract-free for $300.

The entry-level Android device features a 3.5-inch 640x360 touchscreen, a 624MHz Marvell processor, a five-megapixel camera, 2GB of onboard storage with microSD expansion, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, as well as support for UMTS/HSPA 3G and GSM/EDGE networks.

Interestingly, it only runs Android 1.5, but Dell has informed Engadget that it's a "superset" with a "tremendous amount of customization." Added functionality includes handwriting and Facebook support. For what it's worth, the Aero is said to be one of the lightest Android offerings around at 3.67oz.

If you're looking for something with a bit more muscle, the Motorola Droid 2 is currently available for $75 through Verizon with free shipping. Check out today's tech deals post for more information.
