Demand for Microsoft's huge Surface Hubs has exceeded expectations

Thanks veedbub. You confirmed the things I had read that Squid Surprise challenged me on; mainly, "It actually uses a custom stripped down version of Windows 10".

I'm sure this version is simple to use, as you stated which of course is very appealing, yet my prior point is still valid in the sense that a fully functional version of Windows 10 would provide more flexibility.

Would you also be able to confirm my understanding that only 2 panes can be used at once?

Yes a full version of windows would be much more flexible.

Yes its limited to 2 panes. Sometimes there are 3 panes when on a Skype call. That's only when you're using two panes while on a Skype call. The Skype call pane is a fixed size and you can adjust the other pane.

Why you want a more flexible version of windows if this is made for meetings and videoconferences and chances are, it won't be used as a normal computer, so why? If you can project over there, stream, open documents and dial then it's awesome and already doing more than the rivals =P

Also I'm wondering exactly the same as the panes, in an actual system of videoconferencing you can only use the 1 screen and maybe have a hover of the people you have on the conference, so having 2 panes is already much more than most of other offerings, unless you using a computer and windows sizing screen, which probably doesn't work all that well for the purpose at hand.

But then again, it's like they say, in the eye of the beholder.

If you want a device that's merely limited to videoconferencing then by all means, I'm sure it's fabulous.

Why would I want a more flexible version of windows? Let your imagination go wild. There are many reasons.

Take education for instance. Imagine having a teacher do a lesson where they go from whiteboard to PC flawlessly. Maybe bring up a video clip and annotate over it. Then go back to the whiteboard to make a new point. Then, bring up some learning software that they have loaded in the PC to have the children come and practice.

After that, they could roll the device into the conference room to do a teleconference with school administration over Skype. Leave it in the same conference room so that later that evening at a Parent/Teacher conference they can bring up the students progress report and go over it on a large screen. This all happens on the same device. Then it can be conveniently rolled back to the classroom for the next day.

There is more that could be done if it was a full version of windows. As far as the panes go I have had no need for more than 2. So that is not a concern of mine.

Like what? If you buy one for a company it will sit on a board room probably, so I can't think of the other uses it could be used for that is probably not capable by not being a full fledged window.
