Desktop Icons Have Black Boxes XP

The icons on my desktop have black boxes around them which look awful and I cannot get rid of them.

I read this: "I found that in control panel where it says "change desktop icons" the one that brings the black boxes is the "classic" icons on medium setting. The other 2 selections are un-affected by the black boxes covering the icons, the black boxes don't appear."

Of course, I also read this: "Go to Personalization->Adjust font size.
Change your font size to 120 dpi and reboot the computer.
Now you will be able to see you icons but the size will be bigger.
Again change the font size to 96 dpi and reboot you computer again."
