Desktop icons have dissapeared on vista

  1. kda131 Newcomer, in training

    I have windows vista.

    after my competer performed an automatic update and restarted, i loged on my pc and my desktop only has the recycing bin and computer icons. everything else has disappeared.

    a window pops up that reads:

    "Location is not available
    C:/Users/-------/Desktop is not accessible.
    the file or directory is corrupted and unreadable."

    Opposite click on the desktop. Select View and make sure that Show Desktop Icons is checked... If it is, you may have a virus or other malware infection
