Desktop problem

My comp is for some reason having a dificult problem >.<.
whenever I click something/log in my desk top dissapears for about 10 secs and closes whatever computer files/documents I open, I can access mozilla and a few game clients but when I do the screen dissapears for about 10-20mins at a time.
NOT AT ALL COMPUTER savy so guides,pics anything would help on how to fix this

May be faulty Ram
Please download Memtest, and run for 7 Passes.
This is an ISO download, that when burnt to CD, will create a bootable CD, of which can be used to start (boot) your computer with (confirming your Boot order in CMOS)

no floppies or burnable disks atm any quick way for me to do it without em until tommorow?

Yes

Remove your onboard Ram (adherring to electrostatic and power precautions)
Blow out all dust.
Reinsert Ram (Click Click)

Test again

You can also check all other connections as well
