Direct3D device not found error

    i used to play a game Extreme Sports , and it was working well.
    but later i got some problem and i formated OS and again ReInstalled it.
    Sound , Video works fine but the game is not working it says
    "Direct3D Device Not Found" , i tried installing the latest DirectX but it did not work.

    any one know what should i do?

    My Operating System is XP Pro and i installed the same.
    i also tried installing some graphics but did not work.
    Processor is AMD Sempron.

    What is your computers model number? Are you using on-board video or do you have a video card installed?

    Meaby you haven't install sound driver from motherboard cd. Sometimes motherboards had some exotical chipsets on board. I had similar problem too, and the solution was ... sound drivers.
