Directx 9.0c help

I am trying to get Sims 2 up and running on my windows 7 presario v3000
I read through the help in Sims help top first and this is what I was instructed to give you.

standard vga graphics adapter
approx total memory n/a

I have the error that says the directx etc is incompatible.

Please help, I can give further info if needed.

Mayeb there has been a problem when you install DirectX on your laptop so the best will be to download the latest of DirectX 9.0C
